Gastronomic and natural discoveries in the Tokaj and Sárospatak region

This itinerary presents the diverse world of Tokaj-Hegyalja through a well-structured two-day route. The programme begins with local artisanal flavours, continues with a wine tasting experience among the Tokaj vineyards, then reveals the atmosphere of Tokaj through a town walk, followed by a panoramic boat trip on the Bodrog River, and concludes at the Megyer-hegy Sinkhole and a wine tasting dinner in Tarcal. The focus is on the combination of gastronomy, wine region landscapes, and nature experiences.

Day 1: Tokaj flavours, vineyards, and an evening town walk

The day is best started in Tokaj, where the Tokaj Ízes Örömest – Lekvárium offers a short yet distinctive gastronomic introduction to the world of the wine region. The handcrafted jams and local delicacies showcase the traditional flavours of Tokaj-Hegyalja and provide a great foundation for the experiences ahead.

The programme then leads into the Tokaj vineyards: during the vineyard tour with wine tasting, visitors walk among the vines and discover the character of the wine region as well as the origins of Tokaji wines. The landscape, guided insights, and wine tasting together capture the true essence of Tokaj-Hegyalja.

The day concludes in Tokaj with a guided town walk, where historic streets and the evening atmosphere create a calm and evocative setting for the end of the first day.

Day 2: The Bodrog River, Sárospatak, and natural treasures of the wine region

The second day begins on the Bodrog River with the Bodrogi Ringás scenic boat trip to Sárospatak. During this three-hour journey, the slowly unfolding landscape provides the experience: the calm flow of the river, riverside settlements, and the closeness of nature reveal the wine region from a completely new perspective.

After disembarking, Sárospatak and its surroundings follow, with the Megyer-hegy Sinkhole as one of the highlights of the day. This former millstone quarry, now surrounded by striking rock walls, is one of the most impressive natural attractions in the region and offers a short but memorable hike.

The two-day programme concludes in Tarcal with a wine tasting dinner. The distinctive wines of the Tokaj wine region, the elegant setting, and the carefully composed dishes
