Rákóczi-vár (Sárospatak) is perhaps Hungary’s most beautiful late Renaissance castle. It was part of the dowry of Zsuzsanna Lórántffy and became an important site of Hungarian independence movements. Every wall of the castle tells stories of the country’s turbulent history. This castle is also depicted on the 500-forint banknote.
