Program Package Riverside adventures from Tokaj to Sárospatak in 2 Days
The two-day program is built around the active exploration of the Bodrog and Tisza region, where cycling routes are complemented by water-based experiences, riverside stops, and nature-oriented locations. Starting from Tokaj, the recommended tours connect smaller settlements, historical attractions, and unique crossing points, while the program throughout focuses on outdoor experiences and discovery at your own pace. Over the course of the two days, cycling and water touring together offer active recreation, scenic routes, and close-to-nature experiences in the Bodrogzug area.
Day 1: Cycling Tour Along the Bodrogzug and the Tisza
The first day follows a full-day recommended cycling route through the Tokaj, Balsa, and Sárospatak area, where riverside landscapes, nature-oriented experiences, and cultural stops alternate along the way. The route combines longer cycling sections with rest stops and gastronomic experiences.
Starting from Tokaj, the Turtle House near Rakamaz can serve as the first stop, highlighting the wildlife and natural values of the Bodrogzug region. In Tímár, the Fish Grill Restaurant may offer a riverside gastronomic break, followed by another stop in the village of Szabolcs, where the historic Szabolcs Earthwork and the Curry Palace restaurant provide additional points of interest.
The journey can then continue towards Balsa, where the ferry offers a unique river-crossing experience as part of the cycling route. Near Viss, the Emu Farm may provide a short detour and a close-to-nature experience, before the day concludes in Sárospatak with a visit to Rákóczi Castle, one of the region’s best-known historical landmarks.
Day 2: Cycling and Canoeing Along the Bodrog
The second day focuses on the immediate surroundings of the Bodrog River, where cycling and water-based experiences are combined into a single route.
The Szegi Bike & Canoe tour, starting from the Tokaj Water Tour Centre, begins with a cycling section leading from Tokaj through Bodrogkeresztúr and Bodrogkisfalud to the Szegi Water Base. Along the route, the settlements of the wine region and the landscapes along the Bodrog continuously alternate with one another.
In Szegi, the program can continue with a canoe tour, during which participants paddle back to Tokaj along the waters of the Bodrog. The slower-paced water section offers a new perspective on the riverside scenery, the close-to-nature environment, and the peaceful world of the Bodrogzug region.
