Three days where nature, history, and the experiences of the Tokaj wine region come together in a single itinerary.

This three-day program weaves together the many layers of the Tokaj, Bodrog Valley, and Zemplén region into an intensive, experience-based itinerary. From water-based sections to historical memorial sites and wine region stops, the program continuously alternates between quieter, nature-oriented moments and more engaging cultural or active experiences. Along the way, synagogues, museums, sites connected to the miracle rabbis, an adventure park, and Tokaj wine experiences set the rhythm, allowing the region to reveal its spiritual, historical, and experience-driven character all at once.

Day 1: Setting Out on the Water, Stepping into the Past, Arriving in Wine

The day begins in the unique water world of the Bodrogzug with a canoe birdwatching program organized by the Tokaj Water Tourism Centre, where calm waterways and rich wildlife offer a nature-based experience. The slow pace and peaceful landscape provide an ideal start to the first day of the three-day discovery journey.

This is followed by a lunch combined with a wine tasting at Fakapu Pince, where Tokaj wines and local gastronomy create an atmospheric stop after the water experience.

In the afternoon, the program continues in Tokaj with a visit to the Tokaj World Heritage Wine Museum and the Tokaj Museum, where the history of the wine region, its cultural heritage, and its traditions are presented through interactive and permanent exhibitions.

Day 2: In the Footsteps of the Miracle Rabbis – Pilgrimage Route, Memorial Sites, and Gastronomic Stops

The second day is a full-day thematic cultural route, “In the Footsteps of the Miracle Rabbis,” starting in Tokaj at the local synagogue and continuing through Bodrogkeresztúr (the miracle rabbi’s grave), Tarcal, Mád, Tállya, Abaújszántó, Erdőbénye, Olaszliszka, Sárospatak, and Sátoraljaújhely, showcasing the Jewish heritage sites of the region.

Along the route, several gastronomic stops can enrich the journey: the Acetánia Vinegar Museum in Bodrogkeresztúr (with vinegar tastings), Mádi Sajt in Mád, the Anyukám Mondta restaurant in Encs, A Boros wine bar in Sárospatak, and the Vár Vendéglő, all offering local flavours and culinary experiences throughout the day.

This itinerary thus offers not only cultural and historical discovery, but also a rich culinary journey that accompanies the pilgrimage route.

Day 3: Active Zemplén Finale, Gastronomy, and Rákóczi Castle

The third day begins in Sátoraljaújhely at the Zemplén Adventure Park, where the chairlift, bobsleigh track, adventure courses, and panoramic viewpoints provide an active, experience-rich start to the day and set an energetic tone for the final stage of the itinerary.

This is followed by a gastronomic stop at Vár Restaurant, where local flavours and a relaxed atmosphere offer a break before continuing the day’s program.

In the afternoon, the journey continues in Sárospatak with a visit to the Sárospatak Rákóczi Castle, where the exhibitions of the Rákóczi Museum present the historical and cultural heritage of the town and the wider region.
